Little White House

The hard-working volunteers have been inundated with blessings this summer! Everyone loves to help students and has shared their treasures with us. We have had so many over-sized items that we have hired “strong backs” to help move many of the furniture items. We also are going to be able to have a permanent area for our wedding boutique due to a generous donation. All current students at Loma Linda University are welcome to come for needed items. We always need your prayers for wisdom and patience in handling the many needs that come to our attention. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated.

Freshman medical students were welcomed to the Little White House on . With July 25, 2016.

How We Notify

The students in all the LLU schools receive an email prior to each Monday that we are open announcing the theme of the evening or highlighting special pieces or the free ticket raffle items for that evening. Sample of Announcement: Come find bargains at your neighborly “outlet mall”! Unlike visits to Lamps Plus, Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma where you may find things that tempt you but the price tags do not, here with a Student ID in hand, these price tags “read” free! We are running specials in all categories: furniture, dishes and kitchen utensils, linens, guys and gals clothing and surprises. Let us spoil you! Our pro volunteers can be your personal shoppers. Meet old friends; make new acquaintances while snacking at our “mini food court”.

Stay in Business

The students are told about the generosity of this community, their love for the students, and how the residents like knowing their donated items will go to students. This is the only way we stay in business! With students moving away, retirees downsizing, others streamlining or cleaning out storage sheds we are the beneficiaries; we thank them for remembering the Little White House!

Delivery

We have found it necessary to hire two people (very part-time) to help with pick-up and delivery, to arrange furniture on the patio for display each Monday that we are open and to help with the continual influx and space requirements of the sheds. The students pay a nominal fee to have their furniture delivered immediately.

How Can I Help?
Join one of our teams of twenty-five volunteers, working Monday mornings (sorting and “boutiqueing”) and/or working Monday evenings helping students shop. Volunteers work once a month or weekly. We will work with your schedule! Please join us. As always, financial donations are appreciated.

STUDENT COMMENTS

One volunteer overheard a student’s phone conversation in the Little White House Kitchen: “you need to come here right now. They have everything!” Then he turned to the volunteer and said, “Who runs this?” And she answered” The Medical Auxiliary”

“Thanks to the Little White House, we were able to furnish our living room with these beautiful pieces of furniture, which came with no price tag. It certainly is not possible to put price tags on the generosity of the Loma Linda Community, and we are just two of the many students that have benefitted from the Little White House. We are overjoyed with the new additions to our living room, but thankful for your generosity even more so.”

“I just can’t believe you ladies do this for us. It is wonderful, and I just love the food.”
